MSc student in for Quantum-state engineering in Coherently Prepared Media – Novel Properties and Applications project

Application deadline: 25 June 2010

Key responsibilities include:
Quantum-state superpositions are often employed as qubits in quantum information. For their successful application in is essential to lengthen the coherence times, and have versatile methods of controlling the state of such superpositions by external electromagnetic fields. The propose of the project is to develop such methods. In particular, superpositions of specific atomic magnetic sublevels will be required with well determined quantum numbers and symmetric properties which will offer new ways of performing quantum operations on such states. Experimental methods of unambiguous detection of such states by optical methods will also be developed within the project.

The School for Renewable Energy Science MSc. Scholarships in Renewable Energy Science

For more details about RES and the M.Sc. Degree Program please feel free to contact the Rectors Office at rector@res.is for further information, or visit our RES homepage at www.res.is

RES - the School for Renewable Energy Science in Iceland is now accepting applications for its one year (90 ECTS credits) international M.Sc. Degree Program in Renewable Energy Science, for the academic year 2011-2012.

The RES Program will in February 2011 complete its third year of operation when 49 masters degree students from twelve different countries will graduate. The students this year are specializing in four different fields, namely Geothermal Energy, Hydropower, Fuel Cell Systems & Hydrogen, and Energy Systems & Policies. RES also offers a specialization in Biofuels & Bioenergy. In the near future the school will as well offer specializations in Wind & Wave Power and in Solar Energy in cooperation with foreign partner universities.

RES is a private institution of higher learning, a graduate school, affiliated with the University of Iceland in Reykjavik and the University of Akureyri in North-Iceland.

RES is seeking limited number of highly qualified students to enroll in the M.Sc. Degree Program. A number of Scholarship Awards are also available for outstanding students, including e8 Scholarships and RES tuition fee waiver.

We would appreciate if you could kindly discuss our M.Sc. Degree Program details and scholarship opportunities with some of your top students interested in pursuing a degree in renewable energy in Iceland. Currently 81% of primary energy in Iceland comes from renewable energy sources, highest of any nation. Essentially 100% of electricity generation in Iceland is already from renewable energy sources and over 99% of space heating. Therefore Iceland is a good example for other nations to follow on their route to a more sustainable energy future.

RES is also looking to further expand co-operation with leading international universities, as academic and research partners for the M.Sc. Degree Program, but equally so for the RES Summer School, RES Executive School, and as new partners for our RESnet Network (for more information visit: www.res.is ). If your university is interested in establishing such a partnership with us (e.g., initially with a MOU) we would like to hear from you.

M.Sc. Research Studentship from Trinity College Dublin at the Fluids, Vibration and Acoustics Group

Scholarship, International Scholarship, M.Sc. Research Studentship from Trinity College Dublin at the Fluids, Vibration and Acoustics GroupSalary: 16k euro per annum and academic fees
Closing Date: until position is filled
Applications are invited for a Research Studentship to work in the Fluids, Vibration & Acoustics Group at Trinity College, Dublin, within the context of an EU Framework 7 Collaborative Project. Research work would lead to a M.Sc. degree of Trinity College, University of Dublin in the Faculty of Engineering, Mathematics and Science.

The Fluids, Vibration and Acoustics group in Trinity College, Dublin, have developed coherence-based noise source identification techniques which identify the contribution of core noise to near- and far-field acoustic measurements of aero-engines. The objective of the work within this studentship is to further develop these techniques with novel Beamforming algorithms and to apply them to experimental and full scale engine data generated within an EU Framework 7 project. Of particular interest is the implementation of these techniques to broad-band noise identification and the study of non-linear interaction mechanisms. The scope of the work will entail designing and conducting in-house experiments, performing simulations with theoretically generated data and developing novel signal processing techniques. There will be opportunities to spend time in the test locations of some of our EU partners within the programme.

Applicants should have a good honours degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline with some background in acoustics and signal processing being an advantage. The scholarship will be for 1.5/2years and will include remuneration of 16k euro per annum and academic fees.

Further information and informal enquiries can be made to:

MSc and MA Scholarships in Languages 2007-2008 UK

MSc and MA Scholarships in Languages, Swansea University

For the academic session 2007/08, Swansea University is offering up to 12 Taught Masters Bursaries to applicants from the UK or EU aiming to pursue MAs in Languages. Each award is worth GBP 1,500 towards tuition fees. Swansea University is also offering a number of International Office Postgraduate Scholarships. These awards make a GBP 1,000 contribution to fees for applicants from outside the EU. Both types of funding are available for the MA Translation with Language Technology and the MA Literary Translation.

MA Translation with Language Technology (MATLT)

The MATLT is a professionally focused, integrated course designed to ensure that entrants with proven foreign language competence emerge as successful and marketable future professionals equipped with the skills now in demand in the language services industry worldwide. Particular attention is paid to in-depth training with the latest Computer-Assisted Translation tools and to key techniques for building up translation specialisms. Our philosophy can be summed up in the phrase `hands on`: students learn by doing and we aim to teach strategies as much as solutions, based on our own extensive experience of working as and training translators. Successful MATLT graduates are now employed all over the world as freelance and in-house translators, project managers, terminologists, software developers and in many other capacities.

MA Literary Translation (MALT)

The MALT is designed to offer both an independent, intellectually stimulating scheme of study for advanced linguists and literary specialists, and a practical and theoretical training for those wishing to pursue literary translation in the course of their career. It is also suitable for practising translators who do not yet have but wish to gain formal qualifications. If you have a strong interest in literature and the specific features of literary expression in different languages, this flexible programme will give you a unique opportunity to develop your interests.

Both MA degree schemes can be pursued as full-time or part-time programmes. They are suitable for recent graduates of single or joint honours BAs (or international equivalents) in fields related to Languages, as well as for people with a less formally documented background who have significant relevant experience. All successful applicants for the MAs can be considered for either the Bursaries or the Scholarships, depending on their nationality.
