Germany: PhD Studentship in Economics at university of postdam

This project is a joint research effort undertaken by the University ofPotsdam in cooperation with the NGO Germanwatch, the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin), the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy, the Potsdam-Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), and the European Climate Forum (ECF). The project is scheduled to last for three years.

For the project Mainstreaming climate opportunities and chances in the financial sector the University of Potsdam and the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin) are looking for the following positions to be filled as soon as possible:

You are familiar with risk management in theory and practise and are fascinated by mainstreaming Bayesian risk management in the financial sector.

You would enjoy the challenge of improving non-orthodox techniques of risk management and general work regarding theoretical basics; e.g., de Finetti`s theorem.

You have mastered the standard techniques of time series analysis and enjoy working with data. In close collaboration with your colleagues, you would improve and apply techniques of Bayesian risk management.

You have sound expertise in empirical social research and would enjoy organising focus groups. Moreover, you would enjoy developing and using online markets for assessing expectations.

You are familiar with risk management in theory and practise and would enjoy the challenge of improving and applying non-orthodox techniques. You are competent and interested in doing research regarding theoretical basics;
e.g., de Finetti`s theorem. You would enjoy taking over some executive functions within the research project.

Based on the needs of German financial service providers, this project will seek to assist in mainstreaming the management of climate risks both in the assessment of businesses and in asset management. You will have the opportunity to apply your sound professional skills to a socially relevant field in aninterdisciplinary setting.

We expect that you are willing to travel, demonstrate written and verbal fluency in English (English applies to all positions, German to positions Id-Nr. cj/07/01, cj/07/04 and cj/07/05), enjoy mathematics and computers, are able to work professionally in a team, and have the ability to work independently. Additionally you hold a university degree (Masters level or equivalent), and, for position Id-Nr. cj/07/05 a doctorate. All positions are limited initially to one year with the possibility of extension to a further two years.
