PhD Studentships in Mathematics at University of Bristol
2007
The Department of Mathematics invites applications from potential Ph.D. students in Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Statistics to join our internationally leading research groups.
The Department is one of the leading centres for research and teaching in mathematics in the UK. There are groups working in Applied Mathematics, Pure Mathematics and Statistics.
In the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise, Applied Mathematics was graded 5*A (one of only three groups in the UK given the highest rating), Pure Mathematics was graded 5B (denoting excellence at an international level) and Statistics was graded 5*A (the only group in the UK given the highest rating). Applied and Statistics have recently been up-graded to the new “best 5*” rating.
The research is wide-ranging and there are currently research groups in the following areas of mathematics: Algebra, Analysis, Number Theory, Logic, Dynamical Systems, Fluid Mechanics, Mathematical Physics, Probability and Statistics and Quantum Information.
Please consult our webpages (http://www.maths.bris.ac.uk) for details of our current research interests and possible projects for Ph.D. study.
Fully funded, Research Council Studentships are available, subject to eligibility, and we expect to receive Overseas Research Studentships and University Scholarships.
Applicants are invited to attend the Postgraduate Open Day on 7 February 2006 with registration for this event at this page.
Full details of how to apply may be found on-line here: and for more information please contact our postgraduate coordinator at: (y.liskevich@bris.ac.uk).
