ACADEMIC PROGRAM
Orientation and intensive Spanish
50 courses in language, humanities, social sciences, and business taught in English for IES students only
Optional enrollment at local institutions (access based on language exam)
Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in Castillian, Catalan or English in specific departments, including Business Management and Administration, Political Science, Humanities, Audio-Visual Communication, Translation and Interpretation, Journalism, Telecommunication, and Computer Science
School of International Trade (ESCI) in English or Spanish
Universitat Ramon Llull (URL) and Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB) joint courses in English and Spanish with IES and local students
Universitat de Barcelona (UB)
Hispanic Studies (Estudios Hispanicos) at UPF in beginning, intermediate or advanced Spanish
Unpaid internship in business and social agencies
Course load
Program requires enrollment in Spanish language course and combination of IES center courses AND either a university course or internship
16 IU credits in a combination of IES courses and university courses
3-credit internship option
ELIGIBILITY
You may apply if you
are a student at any IU campus who is making normal academic progress,
are in at least your fourth full-time semester of college,
have taken or are enrolled in first year Spanish and
have approximately a 3.0 cumulative GPA and a B average in Spanish.
Complete eligibility criteria and selection criteria are outlined within the Academic Policies and Procedures of the Office of Overseas Study. Selection is based on maturity, seriousness of purpose, and appropriateness of match between program and applicant. Students on disciplinary probation during program period are not eligible.
*Business majors must be enrolled in or have completed (or will complete) E201, E202 and the Business Integrative Core (or equivalent coursework at an IU campus outside Bloomington).
*Liberal Arts and Management Program (LAMP) students must have completed BUS K201 and A208 or equivalent, and ECON E201 and E202
HOUSING
Spanish homes or student apartments
ESTIMATED FALL 2006 COSTS
Fee paid to IU: $560
Fee paid to IES: $13,215* (tuition, health insurance, room and some meals)
Other meals: $1,500
Initial prepayment of $500 due October 23 for spring.
Airfare, personal expenses and vacation travel additional.
* Special Discounted IES fee for IU students
FINANCIAL AID
IU scholarships, grants and loans applicable to program costs
(but not performance scholarships, Guaranteed Tuition Certificates, fee courtesies, Indiana Higher Education Awards, and awards to children of disabled veterans)
